Raised in the small town of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, Kate Kazlo began her professional career with the retail and home furnishings brand, Shabby Chic in Chicago. She spent several years living in Los Angeles and traveling across the country to New York City, managing their retail division, before she decided it was time to come home.
Kate opened The Home Market in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward neighborhood in 2006, hiring her sister to help manage custom orders, retail traffic and her growing list of clients seeking design services. In 2014, The Home Market moved to a larger space in the Third Ward, continuing to build business and providing the right foundation on which to expand.
The Home Market specializes in custom slipcovered and upholstered furniture, unique home accents, bedding and lighting. Spaces are designed to feel collected, not decorated, by mixing organic neutrals and refined details to create a casual, elegant style. Kate handpicks the merchandise for the store and her clients, including vintage and one-of-a-kind accents, and is just as likely to be found hanging a picture frame in a client’s home as she is styling a tablescape.
Kate has worked on many custom design projects, ranging from whole home remodels to the Wisconsin Sports Awards event design, and works on projects throughout the country.
